About The Project
Our client needed a way to create and manage work permits and handle risk assessment in the field without worrying about keeping track of physical pieces of paper. Moving to a mobile app allows for ease of use in the field, as well as a easier way to view data from certain job sites to be able to track reoccurring issues or safety violations.
Needs and Problems
Needed a simple to use interface for something that required a lot of content.
Needed a way to show safety protocols mid-permitting to help reiterate and remind users of the importance.
Needed a way to review what had been entered in previous steps. Some permits might be started before work started, but finished in the field.
Needed a way to log workers in and out of the work site for tracking and legal purposes.
Needed an easy way to see all open and active permits.
Client Workshop
We had a week long design and development workshop with this client to better understand the intricacies of what they were looking for and the needs of their users. They brought in people who would be actually using it which allowed us to do user research and begin to white board up some ideas.
Personas
From the workshop and user research we then created these personas of our end users.
Process
Wireframes
I started creating the wireframes while the client was still in our workshop and presented these at the end of the week for some initial feedback from the clients and users that we had spoken to previously. I wanted to get some initial reactions from them before I dove too far into the process.
Visual Design
I also created a few visual design options for the clients to give feedback on while they were in our workshop so I could apply that treatment to the final app once we had settled on the actual flow of the app.
Solution
Home Screen
The Home Screen gives you quick access to lists of current/active/and closed permits as well as the ability to create a new permit. It also shows additional safety information along the top as a constant reminder and easy way to refresh.
Job Details
General Details about the job including location, type of job, date, and assigning the double check options to other employees.
Walkdown Details
This is where you select the type of hazards you/others may encounter on this job to make sure that you have the correct safeties set up.
Controls
This section walks you through making sure you have all of the safety features in place to ensure you have a safe work environment. These are to be checked and signed off by one supervisor, then a second should come behind and double check and sign off again.
Work Party Sign On/Off
The Work Party Sign-On section allows you to check each person in and out of the work site for proper record keeping.
